 Explore your life stories and transform them into an altered book!.  According to the International Society of Altered Book  Arts (ISABA), an altered book is an "art form that uses existing books that are transformed into works of art.  The book becomes the canvas for the new ideas and images." In this class, students will explore joining painting, drawing, sculpting, and printmaking with a variety of materials (postcards, photographs, newspaper articles, fabric swatches, and other memorabilia) when making their altered books.  Together, these materials can be collaged, wired, sewn, or nailed to your altered book.  Techniques introduced include collage, assemblage, image transfer, metal stamping, stamping with paint and  the use of computer images.  Students will create 2-3 altered books in this short session.  Bring photos, memorabilia, and anything else you would like to incorporate into your book.  I will also provide many unusual materials.

Let's draw, paint and print nature using charcoal, watercolor, acrylic, tempera and water based inks, this can include some journaling if you wish.  Gyotako printing and watercolor will be combined to create some unique underwater scenes.  We will paint on canvas, rice paper and wood, creating landscapes, still life's and more.  Spend the week with painter Jeanne Stortz for an art adventure.

Make your own puppets, write or tell your own stories, we'll make a puppet theatre, make musical instruments and of course perform.  We will build a variety of puppets using paint, clay, wood, socks and fabric and then create a couple of musical instruments. Our setting for the performance will be a puppet theatre that we will construct using cardboard, wood, fabric and paint.  Sounds like fun!  Join Jeanne Stortz as we tell stories with our puppets.

Create awesome sculputres, collage, make and mold paper and take an old book and make sculpture.  This week is inspired by artists;  Louise Nevelson, George Morrison, Frank Stella, John Dahlsen and Jeanne Stortz.  We'll use wood, wheels, paper, socks, metal, hammers, wire, bottle caps and more materials to make art.  Learn about assemblage, collage and recycled art.  You will use your imagination, be messy, have fun and create with mixed media artist and painter Jeanne Stortz

Create art miniatures and create a giant mural.  We will paint like Impressionist, Claude Monet.  Paint a miniature landscape and paint a mural sized Monet, a beautiful watercolor using watercolor papaer.  Each participant will bring a large section of the mural home.  Make miniature birds out of air-dried clay.  Create a summer sketchbook.  We will sketch indoors and outdoors, sketching everything from wild animals to landscapes.  Inspired by Marc Chagall we will paint dreamscapes.  We will create collage after reviewing Romare Bearden's art and Thomas McKnight will inspire our printmaking. You've heard about "recycling" find out about "upcycling".  Make paper, create cool wood sculptures, create an altered book and more.  We will use wood, wheels, paper, scoks, metal, hammers, wire, bottle caps and more materials to make "green art".  A week inspired by many artist including; Frank Stella, John Dahlsen, Jeanne Stortz and more.  It will be an imaginative fun week with artist, Jeanne Stortz.

Let's get out our passport and travel the world through art.  We will explore 2-D and 3-D art throught a variety of cultures including; Chinese, Oaxacan, Inuit, Japanese and more.  We will be printmaking, painting, mask making and creating sculptures.  Look forward to using air-dried clay, paint, plaster, rice paper, and wood in our art creations.  Let's see the world through art with artist Jeanne Stortz.
